Who am I?

Hi, I'm William! I love coding things that have practical uses & working on projects that I genuinely feel passionate about!

With a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry, as well as an upcoming Advanced Diploma in Computer Science in 2021, my well-rounded skill set allows me to tackle any challenge and work with a wide variety of different teams!

For most of my life, I have enjoyed playing video games and have connected with many other amazing people through it. These opportunities continue to grow as I progress through my career, and I hope we can be part of it in a positive way! =)

Projects

Reddit Bot - Patch Notes Guessing Game

Written in Python 3.8, this application automates the process of the Patch Notes Guessing Game that is hosted in a thread on the Reddit platform for the video game "Heroes of Newerth" (HoN). A few weeks prior to the release of the patch notes, HoN players can participate in a guessing game to collectively uncover the patch notes!

Heroes of Newerth

Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is a free-to-play, multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game originally developed by S2 Games, and now owned by Garena & Frostburn Studios.

HoN's entity scripting system uses XML. The User Interface (UI) uses a combination of XML and Lua, the backend uses PHP, and the engine is coded in C++. I have made changes in all parts of the tech stack at some point.

Megahop

Mega Hop is a free, easy-to-play platform hopper game. The game involves getting the ball to continuously bounce across moving platforms without going off the level. Coded with Unity and C#.

I primarily worked on the Leaderboard System of the game, and this repository contains some of the key files used for the Leaderboard System. With permission from our team, I am able to post the code files I primarily worked on.

Patch Notes Formatter

Manually formatting patch notes for the game known as Heroes of Newerth (HoN) that will be released every few weeks (or even months) is incredibly tedious & consumes hours of your time each time you do it.

By investing ~10 hours into a Python Patch Notes Formatter script, I was able to enjoy my increased productivity and semi-automate the formatting process!

This Website

I created this website while taking a Web Programming Course at Algonquin College (in Fall 2019).

As someone who has never really been artistically gifted and is new at web development of any kind, I spent about a month total working on the contents of this website.

Wireshark Log Parser

This Wireshark Log Parser was created as a self-directed learning project for my Networking Fundamentals class. Built in Python 3.7 and leveraging the TShark shell, this program parses important parameters from a valid Wireshark log file (typically a .pcapng or .cap file) for every frame and outputs the desired parameters in a table.

IP Subnet Calculator

This IP Subnet Calculator was created as a self-directed learning project for my Networking Fundamentals class. Built in Python 3.7, this IPv4 Subnet Calculator uses a given subnet mask and a host IP address as inputs, and outputs the Class Type, Class Bits, Default Subnet Mask, number of borrowed bits, number of subnets, number of host bits, and the number of available hosts.

Bank System

This Bank Management System was created with Java (and JavaFX for the UI) for the final Lab assignment in our OOP/Java II course. The Bank Management System keeps track of a list of bank accounts and their current state.

Basic functions like printing the account details, importing/exporting account details from/to an external text file, adding an account, displaying a specific account's details with a basic search function, and updating an account's details can be done both through the command line or through the UI. Input validations and user feedback were also implemented.
